Known to be India's first Energy University and the first and only Energy Core Sector University of Asia, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies is a University Grants Commissions approved and NAAC Accredited University located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It supposedly has more than 47 graduates, post graduate and doctoral programs to offer to over 5000 students in the rapidly growing sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure, Electronics, IT and Logistics', Supply Chain. A centre for aviation studies is also established in the university.

For working professionals who cannot avail regular courses, distant learning programmes are also available which are at par with the regular ones. The UPES was established in 2003 by the Act of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand (UPES Act, 2003). The university is dedicated to improve the standards of education and create professionals who are ready to meet any challenges of the world.
