University Grants Commission Junior Research Fellowships
Enquire NowJunior Research Fellowships scheme under the University Grants Commission was begun keeping in view the political and cultural mutual relations of India with other developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The scheme has created new vistas for Indian as well as foreign students and teachers, enabling them to undertake advanced studies and research in science, humanities and social sciences in Indian universities.
The main objective of Junior Research scheme is to offer an opportunity to students and teachers from developing countries to undertake advanced study and research leading to MPhil/PhD and postdoctoral research in sciences, humanities and social Sciences at Indian universities.
Eligibility
The candidates should be below the age of 35 years but there is ten years age relaxation for female candidates. The candidates must have a high-class master's degree with a second-class bachelor's degree, or second-class master's degree with a first-class bachelor's degree.
Application Process
The applications are called through circulation to Indian embassies/Indian missions abroad and published in leading newspapers of India and the website of UGC. The candidates are requested to fill up the applications and to send within fixed date.
Duration, value and other details
Junior Research Fellowships are awarded to twenty candidates for a period of four years. Rs.8,000/- p.m.Rs.9,000/- p.m.
For remaining period subject to the recommendation for enhancement/extension by a three-member committee and the Commission's approval.

Contingency
Rs.25,000/- p.a. : For remaining period for sciences
Rs.20,500/- p.a. : For remaining period for Humanities
