The Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), established in 1972, is an independent organization, which is a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860.

ICHR was established with the objective of bringing together all historians and provide them a platform for interacting, making the writing of history scientific and rational, propagating, encouraging and organizing research activities in history with thrust on areas which have remained unattended so far, boosting and coordinating research activities in history in order to bring about a balance among the various areas of historical research.

The Indian Council of Historical Research junior Fellowship is one among many scholarships that it provides. This scholarship is generally provided mainly to established historians.

Eligibility and other Details of ICHR Junior Fellowship

  • ICHR Junior Fellowship is offered to those meritorious scholars who have already enrolled in a PhD course with bright academic background.
  • ICHR Jounior Fellowship is offered for a period of two years which can be extended for another one year in certain exceptional cases.
  • The candidates are awarded Rs 5, 000 per month with a yearly contingency allowance of Rs. 12, 000.

Application Process

The notification for ICHR Junior Fellowship is published in leading newspapers. The candidates are asked to send typed application to the Indian Council of Historical Research. Applications should be routed through the university, college or institute where the applicant is enrolled. The application should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • 5 copies of exhaustive note on the research plan
  • Curriculum Vitae of the applicant
