The Indian Council of Social Science Research, established in 1969, aims to advance research activities in social sciences in India. So, it offers scholarships in various study areas of social sciences like economics, commerce, management, sociology, social work, social anthropology, gender studies, political science, international relations, geography and many others.

The Indian Council of Social Science Research Senior Fellowship is one among them that is offered to bright social scientists, who meet with all eligibility requirements of the Council.

Eligibility, Duration and other Details of Indian Council of Social Science Research Senior Fellowships

The candidates should be Indian nationals with a PhD degree. They must have published research paper in journals. There is no age limit for this scholarship.

Indian Council of Social Science Research Senior Fellowships is granted for a period of two years.

Applications for the Indian Council of Social Science Research Senior Fellowships are called for through notifications in the Economic & Political Weekly (EPW), University News and the official website of the ICSSR. This is normally published in March every year and the applications, duly completed, should be sent to the Council by the15th of June.

Value of the Indian Council of Social Science Research Senior Fellowships

  • The scholarship is a monthly allowance of Rs.8, 000/- per month for research scholars who are not in employment or have retired from normal service.
  • In case of research scholars in employment the Fellowship makes safe their salary during the period of the Fellowship. The research Fellow will be eligible for grants and contributory grants which he was receiving at the institute from which he has applied for the scholarship
  • The Fellowship also provides for a grant of Rs.36, 000/- to unemployed, retired and employed research scholars during the full tenure of the grant.
  • The grant is given for an initial period of 1 year which comes into effect from the date of joining
  • The grant for the 1st year is given in 3 break-ups with the 3rd installment being 10% of the entire grant for the 1st year.
  • The other two installments are 60% and 40% of the remaining installments
  • The third installment is given after the submission and successful evaluation of the final research report.
