Enquire NowThe Department of Culture, Government of India came to the conclusion that no schemes providing financial support to creative artists were available in the country while reviewing the field of creative arts.
It was also felt that such a scheme should be implemented at the earliest to revive the country's traditional art forms. With this thought in mind it was decided that a scheme of awarding fellowships to exemplary performers in various creative fields would be introduced. This fellowship scheme, known as the 'Scheme for the Award of Fellowships to Outstanding Artists in the fields of Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts' is made available to artists in rural and tribal areas
Eligibility for Fellowship in Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts
- The candidates are asked to provide documentary evidence in support of their testimonials
- The candidates for Senior Fellowships should not be a pensioner from the Department of Culture, Government of India
- Once a candidate has been offered a Fellowship, he / she will not be eligible for a second Fellowship before completion of 5 years from the date of completion of the earlier one
Value of the Fellowship / Scholarship:
Fellowship in Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts are of 2 types - (a) Senior Fellowship and (b) Junior Fellowship. Under the Senior Fellowship, 85 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 12,000 each per month are awarded to artists aged 40 years and above. The Junior Fellowship is also 85 in number but for the amount are Rs. 6000/- each, per month for artists aged between 25 and 40 years, as on the 1st of April.
Application Procedure:Applications for the Fellowship are invited every year in a prescribed format, from Indian nationals. A committee of experts from various fields is formed by the Department of Culture, Government of India. The committee reviews all the applications and finally selects the successful candidates for a particular year.
