Established in the year 1985 by the Act of Parliament, Indira Gandhi National Open University aimed in democratizing higher-education. Some of the important objectives of IGNOU are mentioned below:
- Imparting knowledge and education through different sources suited best to Distance and Open Mode of Education.
- Democratizing education of higher level by rendering it at the student's doorsteps.
- Offering the courses of academy on the basis of needs at an affordable price.
- Assisting, encouraging and offering Open Institutes and the Distance Learning Programs.

Total number of students associated with IGNOU is about 1.5 million. The students are from all over the country. The University is having an effective as well as efficient networking comprising of forty eight Regional-Centers. Apart from the Regional Centers IGNOU has more than 1030- Study-Centers, within India.

Ed., BTCM - Bachelor in Technology in Civil- Construction Management, BTWRF - Bachelor in Technology in Civil- Water Resources Engineering, BTS - Bachelor of Arts in Tourism Management and BHA- Bachelor of Science (Hospitality & Hotel Administration).
