Indian Institute of Technology Campus and Location
Kharagpur is famous all over because of the 2 landmarks. 1st it has the longest platform of railway & the 2nd one is the Indian Institute of Kharagpur, which is commonly called as IIT. Kharagpur is situated at 120 kilometers from west side of Kolkata. A person can reach Kharagpur from Kolkata in about two hours of journey by train departed form the Howrah junction or if he wants to go by car then he can reach there in three hours from Kolkata Airport. Kanpur is also connected by direct routes of trains with main cities. It takes drive of ten minutes, i.e. 5km, to reach the Institute from the railway-station.
A student can use his own transport mode in the campus of the Institute. A bus is also run by the Institute which renders services to the railway-station, the Gole Bazaar or also to Midanpore, which is a town near the Institute. There are residential buildings in the Institute. 18 halls are meant for the accommodation of the students. Quarters are also there for the staffs. There in the campus, arrangement for the visitor's accommodation is also provided. There is a canteen in the premises which serves tea, soft-drinks, coffee as well as some snacks.
Within the campus there are 3 banks. SBI is present near the campus of the Institute. Near the SBI is the Post Office. Full telegraphic and postal services are rendered by the Post Office. In the heart of the Institute is constructed a hospital, the B.C.Roy Technology Hospital. The library in the campus of the Institute provides near about 300,000 volumes of books on various disciplines. Internet facility is provided for 24x7 hours in the Institute as well as in the hostels.
