Allahabad University is a leading Central University situated in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Its ancestries lie in the Muir Central College, called after Lt. Governor of North-Western Provinces, Sir William Muir in 1876, who put forward the notion of a Central University at Allahabad, which later progressed to the current University, and at one point it was entitled the "Oxford of the East", and on June 24, 2005 its Central University prestige was refurbished through the 'University Allahabad Act, 2005', of the Parliament of India.
